88 Great Daddy-Daughter Dates by Rob & Joanna Teigen

Build Strong Relationships & Lasting Memories
with Daddy-Daughter Dates

A Game Plan for Creating Affordable, Fun & Creative Dates With Your Daughter

There’s no denying the importance of a relationship between a dad and his daughter.  Girls gain a sense of self-worth from their fathers.  From little girl to young woman – a dad can make all the difference in how a girl sees herself, the world around her and the man she’ll eventually choose to be her husband.  While understanding the importance of establishing and growing that relationship, many dads are overwhelmed when it comes to actually finding the time and creating ways to “date” their daughters and help them become the strong, confident young women they want them to be.

88 Great Daddy-Daughter Dates: Fun, Easy, & Creative Ways to Build Memories Together  offers dads a wide variety of fun ideas for spending quality time with their special girl.  Authors Rob and Joanna Teigen offer help and encouragement to dads who want to make that all important difference in their daughter’s life.

Each date tells dad what to grab (any needed supplies), where to go, and how to grow together while having a blast and making great memories. Also included are Scripture and questions for each date to get the conversation flowing.  From bird-watching and making paper airplanes to bowling and photo scavenger hunts, there’s something for every dad and every girl ages 6-12.

As a father is it your responsibility to spend time with your daughters, therefore, leaving you the responsibility of making it happen and making it meaningful.  With the Teigens' book in hand, you can do just that.  I believe this is the coolest book I've seen.  Rob and Joanna have made it so easy for you with a little preparation you have 88 fun activities right at your fingertips.  All you have to do is follow the 3 "G's" and you are set.
First "G" stands for Grab.  this part of the activity tells you exactly the materials needed to pull off a fun time.
Second "G" stands for Go.  this gives you the details of the activitiy what exact is going to happen and how to make it happen.  The directions or game plan.
Third "G" stands for Grow.  this section will help you to grow and connect.  make the time even more special.  icing on the cake.  gives you ideas of things to talk about during your time together.  ties it all together.  Questions to talk about, thoughts to share and even scriptures to read.

Here are a few pictures of one of the activities.  If you click on the picture it should make them readable....

Having father/daughter, one-on-one time, lets her know that she is important.  It make take some planning and juggling of schedules to make 1-on-1 time happen, but isn't your princess worth it.  Before you know it she's all grown up as my daughters are.  I wish this book would have been written 20+ years ago.  The book opens with 10 tips for a successful daddy-daughter date and closes with 20 Great Daddy-Daughter dates for a teenager.  In between you'll find a variety of activities to do indoors as well as outdoors, quite as well as active times, there are even seasonal and holiday related activities, some that cost little or no money and the last 8 in the book are Big Extreme Dates that take planning and a little more money.  Last Fling Type activities before you truly let her go.  I just can't give this book enough praise.  If you are wanting to spend quality time with your daughter then why not have fun while doing so and this is just the book you need to get the job done.

Good Girls don't have to Dress Bad by Shari Braendel

Oh, my goodness. This book is just absolutely wonderful. I have notes upon notes that I've been taking on this book. I'm going to require my 15 year-old to read it as part of school. I'm working on a study guide for her. My college aged daughter that is a business major is also wanting to read this book. It is just fabulous! The author covers everything and I mean everything about fashion. She doesn't leave a stone unturned. She covers it all from head to toe. The introduction is excellent too. The author talks about importance of outward as well as inner beauty. This was one book I was very glad I was able to hop on board with the tour. This book is almost like a choose your own adventure. You can skip over parts that don't pertain to your body type, face type or fashion style. The author puts it all plain and simple. She tells it like it is.

The book starts out with your wardrobe, helping you determine your body type moves on to best color for you and accessorizing your wardrobe. Shari also helps you with the undergarments and she even included a chapter on swimwear. Making a statement with our hair and make up is next in line. She helps in determining your best hair style for your face shape. Talks about glasses best for you and the list goes on. Jeans, a girl's best friend, are the next stop with a whole chapter dedicated to them. The final chapter is on shopping for your wardrobe. Braendel shares lists of things to put in your wardrobe, those must haves and all. I'm ready to start shopping, well after I clean out the wardrobe. Be as plain as you wish or as creative as you dare; the tips are all in this book. I loved this book and I give it a 5 star with a chic charm hanging from each star. If you are really into fashion or if you would like to be then this is the book for you.

Read the introduction and first chapter here.

In Good Girls Don't Have to Dress Bad, Shari Braendel teaches you how to appreciate the body God gave you and how to always look your best-from conquering the battle of finding the right swimsuit, to choosing how many bangles you should wear or how big your purse should be, to wearing the right style jeans that will best flatter your thighs or hips, to finding the best places to shop to suit your unique personal style.

Many of us are watching reality TV shows to get a clue on how to dress right and look good. We hungrily purchase fashion magazines any time the cover article has something to do with how we can hide our despised body parts. We make mad dashes to the local department store to pick up the new anti-wrinkle cream Oprah promised will take ten years away from our face.

We care about how we look. Why is that? Because we're women, and women love to look and feel good. God made us that way. And this is not a bad thing. In fact, it's a wonderful thing. God loves beauty. He doesn't want us to reflect his image being sloppy, disheveled women of God who don't pay any attention to what we look like.

Good Girls Don't Have to Dress Bad will show you how to look and feel your best, no matter what day it is or what the occasion. And it will also stop you from screaming at the top of your lungs, "I have nothing to wear."

Where did you get the idea for the book?
My speaking platform is fashion with a faith emphasis. I have been involved with the fashion industry longer than I’ve been a Christian so pulling the two topics together was a natural thing for me. I was compelled to write it because I found that Christians are hesitant to talk about outer beauty. I knew it was time to give Christian women permission to talk about this topic and get it out in the open.

What are the major themes of the book?
It is a guide for women to know exactly how to dress, how to make up their face, what eye frames, hairstyle, jeans, and swimsuit they should buy all based on their individual body shape and coloring. There’s even a shopping guide available that tells women exactly what style and brand of clothes to buy based on their budget and their clothing personality, which they identify in the book. Modesty is an overall theme, and understanding that you are beautiful EXACTLY the way you are, no matter your size, is a major theme throughout. It is also full of pictures with real women of all shapes and sizes and is a full color book for only $14.99 which I’m thrilled that Zondervan put so much effort into the book and kept the price affordable so anyone could afford it.

What kind of research did you have to do for the book?
Through my blog and speaking over the past several years, I found that most women are not raised with mothers who knew how to teach them to dress. So we’ve become a society of women who wear what the salespeople in the stores tells us to wear, and for the most part, most salespeople are uneducated in knowing about colors and body shapes for an individual. If black is in style, the salespeople insist it will work for you, even if it doesn’t. They just want to sell clothes, and you can’t blame them, because they haven’t been trained. This book will give a woman complete confidence in knowing what works for HER and even gives checklists as to what she should have in her closet. It’s an easy, do it yourself guide to knowing how to dress for YOU, not someone else.

What do you hope readers will take away from your book?
My prayer is that when a woman finishes this book, she will say, “Oh my goodness, I never knew it was this easy!” I hope she will look in the mirror and finally be convinced that she is beautiful exactly as she is and now has the knowledge and confidence to dress her beautiful self so she feels good every time she goes to her closet because she’ll know exactly what to wear for any occasion. Impulsive shopping nightmares will become a thing of the past because she’s armed with the knowledge from the book. That’s my prayer!

My review of Learning Disabilities by Etta K. Brown

This book is a wonderful book for those that have a child with a learning disability or have an LD child in your classroom. When I saw this book the teacher's heart in me knew I wanted to read it. I substituted for a year in EMH classrooms (pre-school and elementary levels) and it was there that my heart went out to special education.

In her book Brown helps the reader understand what it means to have a learning disability. It isn't that the child can't learn; just that they need some special accommodations to make the learning happen.

Part I of her book was written to help the reader understand the causes of learning disabilities. Part II of this book helps the reader understand the path to take in getting the process underway. Part III takes the reader into the steps it takes to get the child identified as learning disabled. This information will help the parent in getting the appropriate education for their child.

This book was written with the simplest person in mind. There are no big lengthy words; it is written in layman terms, very easy to read and understand. It is a very well laid out book. Each chapter states facts, telling what it means by way of the learner and then very simply explains what is to be done. It is a very good book to have at your finger tips if you are involved in any part of a LD case, parent or teacher. It will remain in my library. I highly recommend it if you feel you child may have some learning difficulties.
