My abc Bible Verses from the Psalms by Susan Hunt & Richie Hunt

Need ideas for new devotionals for your kids.  Then My ABC bible verses from the Psalms by Susan and Richie Hunt is just the book for you.  This short two page daily devotional will take you through the alphabet in 26 days.  hey that is about a month of devotions.  Each letter of the alphabet is represented by a Psalm for the day, a brief story that could be dialogued into a short skit followed by a Let's talk and Let's Pray section.  It not only is a great resource for home, but also for Sunday School, Children's church after school programs and home school groups.

Loving the Way Jesus Loves by Phil Ryken

Phil Ryken gives the Love Chapter, I Corinthians 13, a whole new meaning in his book Loving the Way Jesus Loves.  At the close of the book there is a chapter by chapter study guide to go along with the book.  Ryken uses the life and ministry of Jesus to show us what love is and isn't.  This book is a very indepth exposition study of I Corinthians 13.  Ryken shows the reader the deep love of Christ so that the reader can in turn learn how to love more deeply.

The Wisdom of God by Nancy Guthrie

This book is a brief 10 week study on the Wisdom Books of the Bible: Job- Song of Solomon.  However, it could easily be taken to 20 weeks or more if you want to do more of an in-depth Bible study.  Each lesson is divided into 3 parts:

Here is a little overview of the chapters

She's Got Issues by Nicole Unice

We all have issues in life and Nicole has nailed it down to 5.  She has found that most women have at least one of the five issues in her life.  In her book She's Got Issues she discusses the 5 issues over 10 chapters taking two chapters per issue.   The first chapter she helps the reader define the issue along with an assessment to take to see if you have a problem with the issue. and the second chapter she explores effective ways to deal with the issue.  Each chapter has a prayer, journal exercise and group discussion there is also a web link you can connect to and Nicole gives a few minute encouraging talk on the issue.  There are scriptures listed to help with the issue as well as questions for personal reflection.  The DVD has a participates guide that can be downloaded for groups to use also each issue has a character interview to watch (5 min) a journal inventory entry time as well as a 20 min. session where Nicole will go over the issue with biblical principles added.  There are also bonus discussion questions to use in the group setting.  I haven't found anything not to like about this book and DVD curriculum.  It would make an excellent fall ladies study.

The 5 Issues discussed are:
  • Control
  • Insecurity
  • Comparison
  • Fear
  • Anger/Unforgiveness
Some issues I could easily relate to where others I found were less of a problem for me in my life because they had already been dealt with.

You're Already Amazing by Holley Gerth

The Best News A Woman Will Ever Hear: You’re Already Amazing
(in)courage cofounder & award-winning writer on stopping the quest for perfection

Every woman can relate to the feeling of instant inadequacy after walking into a room crowded with other women, comparing themselves to everyone else in the room. We’re transported back to the seventh grade lunch room, and our quest for acceptance and perfection seems never ending. But what if there was a way to quiet our insecurities and to embrace our differences to live the life God designed specifically for us?

Good news, there is. Award-winning author, (in)courage co-founder and life coach Holley Gerth
ask readers to pull up a chair and shares the best news we’ll ever hear: You’re Already Amazing. Her warm writing style, filled with sincere encouragement and confessions about her own shortcomings, makes it easy for readers to imagine they’re enjoying an intimate conversation over a cup of coffee.

If you need help  Embracing Who You Are, Becoming All God Created You to Be then this is the book for you.  Gerth helps the reader to see that You're Already Amazing in God's eyes, and that's all the counts.  If you don't feel amazing and loved when you start the book by the time you reach the end of the book you'll feel amazing, loved and that you matter to God. The book is designed for you to write and answer things right in it.  However, if you are like me you don't like to write in your book, then you can go to the books web site (given in book) and download a pdf file (44 page) pamphlet of all the questions that are in the book.  At the end of the book there is also a beautiful going deeper guide that complements each chapter.  It's a lot of amazing stuff all wrapped up in one small book.  This is one Amazing book and author you won't want to miss.  She even leaves ya with a dare first thing

The Dare
From You’re Already Amazing by Holley Gerth

Pssst . . . pull up a chair and I’ll tell you a secret. You’d better lean in close for this one.

Ready?

You don’t have to do more, be more, have more.

I’m sure there are security alarms going off somewhere. You should probably hide this book when your in-laws come over. And this could be the makings of a Sunday morning scandal. But it’s true.
It’s the kind of true that will change your life, set you free, and make you wake up smiling for the first time in a long time. I know because that’s what it did for me (and believe me, for this non–morning girl that’s nothing short of miraculous). I’ve seen it happen to a lot of other women too. I’ve read it in their words through thousands of comments on my blog. I’ve seen it in their faces on the couch in my counseling office. I’ve heard it in a new kind of laughter over coffee with friends.

So watch out, sister. If you keep reading, you just might be next.

Even if we’ve never met, I know this about you: you’re a daughter of God, a holy princess, a woman created with strengths you’ve yet to fully grasp and a story that’s still being written by the divine Author himself. And if you really take hold of who you are and what you’re called to do, there will be no stopping you. That’s because there’s no stopping him in you—and he’s got bigger plans for your life than you’ve even imagined.

Okay, you’ve been warned.

If you’re feeling brave, I dare you to turn the page . . .

  • What practical steps can believers take to be less self-focused and more God-focused?
    • Life is not about me, but all about Him. This phrase changed my life. Prayer is the key to keeping your eyes on Jesus. The more we pray, the more God moves us to do His will and not our will!
    •
  • You say it’s important for believers to discover how to pray everyday prayers.  What does this mean? I heard a speaker say she would never bother God to help her find her lost keys or a good parking spot—how do you feel about that statement?
    • I pray about everything! Jesus tells us in Luke 16:10, “He who is faithful in what is least is faithful also in much.” We categorize prayers, God recognizes prayers. God wants us to bring everything to Him. Nothing is too small or too big for God! Prayer builds our faith and trust in Jesus!

  • What are some of the blessings of having an intimate life with Jesus, and how does one develop that intimacy?
    • Humbleness abounds as I realize there is nothing I can do to earn an intimate relationship with Jesus. I can only obtain it through His grace and mercy, which He gives so freely. Jesus is my all in all.

A Carpenter's View of the Bible by Charlie March

A carpenter by profession, Charlie March, has used his 20+ years of experience to bring structures in the Bible to life.  In his book, A Carpenter's View of the Bible, March shares insight and knowledge from the Bible to help the reader gain a deeper knowledge of God the master Builder.  March looks at theology, ancient religion, Middle Eastern architecture, and archaeology to bring Scripture to life.  The reader will gain a new perspective of what it truly means to be a master carpenter.  This is a very in depth study of carpentry in the Bible.  The author refers to philosophers such as: Plato, Sextus Empiricus, Proclus, Vitruvies and others.  In this book, March uses science data, archaeology and cultural lifestyle, historical and Biblical facts and information as well as geological studies.  This book is packed full of information and some of it can get deep, but very informative. It is evident that March did much research.

Lazarus Awakening by Joanna Weaver

Getting God’s Love from Our Heads to Our Hearts

You believe that God loves the world…but sometimes you wonder if He truly loves you.

For many of us, moving the truth of God’s love from our heads to our hearts is a lifelong process. As we consider our inadequacies or grieve our shattered dreams, we find it difficult to believe that God cares for us personally.

In this life-giving book, Joanna Weaver shows you how to embrace the truth that Jesus loves you apart from anything you accomplish, apart from anything you bring. Just as He called Lazarus forth to new life, Jesus wants to free you to live fully in the light of His love, unbound from the graveclothes of fear, regret, and self-condemnation.

Love is calling your name.

Combining unforgettable real-life illustrations with unexpected biblical insights, Joanna Weaver invites you to experience a spiritual resurrection that will forever change your understanding of what it means to be the one Jesus loves. Bible study and Leader’s Guide available here http://www.joannaweaverbooks.com/books/lazarus-awakening/

In her book Lazarus Awakening, Joanna Weaver, stresses them importance of awakening the reader out of their oh, hum sleep in Christ to a resurrected transformation of surrender.  She calls for the reader to remover their grave clothes and allow the Holy Spirit to do His work in your life.  She explains in a way like I've never heard it explained before that we are slaves to only what we choose to be slaves to.  We should look for opportunities to be that good neighbor and not let geography hinder our work.

This study is designed to be a 10 week study; however, it could be done in 8 weeks.  There are many helpful resources in the appendix section of this book.  This study can be done as a group or individually.

Joanna Weaver is known the world over for her transparent and life-changing books, Having A Mary Heart in a Martha World and Having a Mary Spirit. These two books have sold over a million copies and have been translated into several languages including Spanish, French, Dutch, Chinese, German, Korean and more. Joanna has appeared on a wide variety of nationally syndicated radio and television broadcasts. Past appearances include: The Harvest Show, At Home Live With Chuck & Jenni, Midday Connection, HomeWord, and Janet Parschall’s America. She is also a highly sought after speaker and shares her message at intimate gatherings and several high profile events each year. But Joanna's greatest joy is found in being a wife and mother and her role as a pastor’s wife. For more information about Joanna, please visit her website. www.joannaweaverbooks.com

Joanna is celebrating the release of Lazarus Awakening with the Heart of God KINDLE Giveaway!

In Lazarus Awakening Joanna writes about getting God’s love from our heads to our hearts. We all know Jesus loved Mary – look how she worshiped. And we can understand why He loved Martha – after all, look how she served. But what about those of us who don’t know where we fit in the heart of God? Lazarus Awakening explores the tale of the third follower – Mary and Martha’s brother, Lazarus. We never hear him speak, we never see him serve. The only thing of any significance that Lazarus did was to die. And yet, the Bible is clear. Jesus loved Lazarus. And He loves you and me as well. Lazarus Awakening looks at different aspects of the story we find in John 11. We learn what it means to be a friend of God and begin recognizing the tombs we spend far too much time in. Find out more here.

One grand prize winner will receive:
