Meet Humble Honeybee and his virtue friends in this wonderful children's book of virtues. The pictures are bright, bold and colorful; the cover is  hardback with a soft cushion front cover. The characters will help reinforce those character traits that you are longing to instill in your child.  Each virtue is defined and then the story will go into detail showing how the virtue is carried out or experienced in the characters life.  At the end of each character trait there is a page that asks the reader if they have ever experienced a time when they put to use this virtue.  Good way to get your child to talk and reinforce the virtue.  There is also a scripture verse that corresponds with the virtue as well.  The character lessons are very simple that a two or three year old would benefit from this book.  7-8 year old might be a little bored with it.  Your young children will fall in love with the animal characters.

First "G" stands for Grab.  this part of the activity tells you exactly the materials needed to pull off a fun time.
Second "G" stands for Go.  this gives you the details of the activitiy what exact is going to happen and how to make it happen.  The directions or game plan.
Third "G" stands for Grow.  this section will help you to grow and connect.  make the time even more special.  icing on the cake.  gives you ideas of things to talk about during your time together.  ties it all together.  Questions to talk about, thoughts to share and even scriptures to read.

Having father/daughter, one-on-one time, lets her know that she is important.  It make take some planning and juggling of schedules to make 1-on-1 time happen, but isn't your princess worth it.  Before you know it she's all grown up as my daughters are.  I wish this book would have been written 20+ years ago.  The book opens with 10 tips for a successful daddy-daughter date and closes with 20 Great Daddy-Daughter dates for a teenager.  In between you'll find a variety of activities to do indoors as well as outdoors, quite as well as active times, there are even seasonal and holiday related activities, some that cost little or no money and the last 8 in the book are Big Extreme Dates that take planning and a little more money.  Last Fling Type activities before you truly let her go.  I just can't give this book enough praise.  If you are wanting to spend quality time with your daughter then why not have fun while doing so and this is just the book you need to get the job done.

Hermie: A Common Caterpillar by Max Lucado

Are you thinking about Christmas yet??  Well, Hermie the Worm would delight any youngster on Christmas morning and all year long.  Hermie: A Common Caterpillar by Max Lucado is a excellent book.  I totally fell in love with Hermie from day one of reviewing him.  Your child will learn that being common isn't always a bad thing.  We all are special in God's eyes.  God is working on them and isn't finished with them.  These themes are much needed to help any child gain a healthy self-esteem.  The illustrations are beautiful too.  I haven't come across a Max Lucado book that I haven't fell in love with yet.  Just can't go wrong.  I'm sold.

Paws and Tales: putting others first #4

Chuck Swindoll's DVD series Paws & Tales is a wonderful way to present good Christian morals and values with young children.  These animated stories with character traits and values are excellent.  I'd share them with any young child that visited in my home.  Right at the beginning of each story Chuck Swindoll does about a 2-3 minute talk about what the lesson will be about, this may lose the youngest of viewers, but if they can get through that they will be captivated by the animated characters and the story and lessons that are presented in these dvds.  The stories are sound Bible lessons with wonderful values for our children today to learn they aren't getting it from Hollywood that is for sure.

The Adventures of Pookster and Bubs by Rhonda Funk

The Adventures of Pookster and Bubs are children's books written by Rhonda Funk to help children learn how they can put the fruits of the Spirit into their daily lives.

In Pookster and the Unloose Tooth, Pookster learns the lesson of patience. Pookster wants a loose tooth very bad. Her mother keeps telling her to just wait it'll happen in God's time.

In Pookster and the Practically, Perfect Pickle, Pookster learns the lesson of kindness. Pookster's mom compares our words with a pickle.

In both of these stories your child will be able to relate to something in the story. I would say the age group is 4 or 5 and up. The last page of each story is a summery page that just helps reinforce the truth that was learned in the story. Each book comes with an audio CD for listening to the story. There are signals for young readers so can independently read-along and they know when to turn the pages. The stories are up-beat and have good lessons for young children to learn. The illustrations are a cartoon type character (even the pickle has a face) No, sorry the tooth wasn't given a face.

I Believe Bunny by Tish Rabe

The I Believe Bunny is a cute book written in rhyme will catch any child's attention. Through animal characters the author teaches young children the importance of prayer. They see that God will answer prayer if we take the time to call upon Him when in time of trouble. Rabbit it the only one who hears mouse's cry for help has she is being swept down the river. Rabbit unsure that he can do anything starts praying asking God to send help. He realizes that with God's help he can be strong enough to help his mouse friend. The illustrations are very well done also, not bright very pastel, but well done. I think any young child would love to see this book under the Christmas tree. It is never too early to be thinking about Christmas. A cute little bunny charm is awarded this book. I'm putting this one in our church library.
