Meanwhile, Saderia finally gets her wish to go to school. She hopes to meet a friend, but she gets slightly more than she bargained for when she meets a fun-loving cheetah, a bullying panther, three prissy girls, prejudiced teachers, and a strange assistant principal who seems to enjoy making Saderia’s life more difficult. But there is no one as strange as the dark lion that sits in the back, and hides his face from her.
Saderia starts having Dreams again, but even though she knows what they are, she still doesn’t understand them. At the same time, she struggles to accept the prophecy she learned about in her ancestor’s tomb. But why do her Dreams and her instinct always direct her toward the dark lion who seems to fear her?
As the two animals get to know each other, Saderia wonders if Dash is hiding something, while Dash realizes that it is much harder to keep secrets from friends.

First Time: The Legend of Garison Fitch by Samuel Ben White

She looked as if she still wanted to touch him, but kept her distance.  Then, it was as if she were seeing him in a whole new light as she said, "Wait a minute, you've changed.  How did your hair get so long in two seconds?  How did you grow a mustache that quick?  And those clothes?  Except for that jacket, you look like you're ... from the revolutionary war or something.  And you look older."  She looked extremely concerned as she implored, "Garison, what happened?"

He demanded more forcefully, pronouncing each word carefully and distinctly, as if she might not have heard him before, "Who are you?"

"Heather," she replied, as if it were something he should know.  She took a step closer, but he took a step further away, backing down the workbench, keeping one hand on the cabinet as if it would steady him.

"Heather?  Heather who?  I don't know a Heather.  What kind of name is that, anyway?  A plant name?"

"You don't remember me?" she asked, seeming totally at a loss—and looking genuinely worried.

"Why should I?"

"Heather Fitch," she told him.  "Heather Dawson Fitch."

"Fitch?  You're not related to me.  Just what are you trying to pretend here?"

She reached out to touch him again and again he slapped her hand away, this time with more force.  As she brought the hand back, seemingly shocked that the slap had stung, she said, "I'm not just related to you, Garison.  I'm your wife."

First Time: The Legend of Garison Fitch
"What if history didn't happen that way ... the first time?"

Garison Fitch was one of the most revered scientists in the Soviet Americas until he left fame behind to work on a secret project in his log cabin in the mountains of Marx.

But something went wrong. Instead of traveling interdimentionally, Garison has traveled through time ... twice.

Now, he's in something called "The United States of America" and a woman he's never met before is calling herself his wife. It it a hoax? Or, has he somehow changed history?

If so, can he return the world to what he believes is "normal", or must he live in this strange world he created?

ABOUT THE BOOK

Kien Lantec, you will bear witness to my followers in ToronSea.

The last thing Kien Lantec expects on his first day of military leave is to receive marching orders from his Creator, the Infinite. Orders that don't involve destroyer-racing or courting the love of his life, Ela. Adding to Kien's frustration, his Infinite-ordained duties have little to do with his skills as a military judge-in-training. His mission? To warn the people of ToronSea against turning their backs on the Infinite to worship a new goddess.

Tell them I see they are beguiled. Tell them I seek their hearts. The wise will hear Me.

But why Kien? Isn't this the role of a true prophet, such as Ela of Parne? Seeking answers, Kien visits Ela and finds her stricken by a devastating vision of her own. Her birthplace, Parne, has forsaken their Creator and will soon suffer judgment. Pulled in separate ways, each must seek to follow the Infinite's leading...and hope He will reunite them again soon.

Child of dust, will you be My servant?

KA-BOOM! by Alyce Joy

If you are fan of fairies and their antics then you'll love this book. KA-BOOM! is about a little fairy named Sprout that runs into trouble quite often. She has a love for shoes, yep it's a girl fairy.  She always gets the job done. Intertwined into this fictional tale is interesting, nature-related information.  Throughout the story there are a lot of big words that are not usually used by kids and fairies (actually, some aren't even words found in a dictionary.  These words are marked with asterisks in the text, and there is a glossary of them with their meanings at the back of the book which helps teachers or parents to use it as a good vocabulary builder for youngsters.  They are fun fictional words so in the world of reading and fairies anything goes, humor is shown in many of these fictional words.  If it isn't a word Sprout will make it one.

Sprout meets a little girl named Taylor after blowing up Taylor’s dollhouse. Sprout doesn’t give up trying to get Taylor to trust her. She and Taylor finally become friends after Sprout shrinks Taylor and together they have a fantastic adventure.  The message? Never give up.

The illustrations are colorful and fill the page.

Visit the tour here.

Alyce Joy was blessed with four children for whom she composed bedtime verses every night. That inspired her to publish a children’s book of prayers, entitled, “Priceless Gems.” When her children were grown, she began to write stories for her grandchildren.

Always fascinated with arts and crafts, she taught herself the art of pyrography. This fired her imagination, and she started burning life-sized pictures of wildlife onto all the doors of her home. Her wood burnings are scattered through the U.S. and Canada.

After deciding to put away her burning tools and torches, she enrolled in, and graduated from the Institute of Children’s Literature.

Alyce Joy hopes every child who reads her stories will look forward to each new adventure, as her favorite fairy becomes entangled into many, outrageous happenstances.

DawnSinger by Janalyn Voigt

Paradoxical Truths Revealed

A new speculative fiction story releases this summer that captures several paradoxical truths, including: freedom comes through sacrifice – AND – victory comes through surrender. allegorical fantasy readers will be spellbound by the incredible imagery and symbolism throughout DawnSinger, authored by Janalyn Voigt. Some of the key points in the book include:

Freedom through sacrifice. When the willful but reverent main character, Shae, learns her secret identity, she has to decide whether to accept her true calling. Although it may cost her everything, the salvation of a nation hangs in the balance. Shae represents the church. We each must lay down our will and our lives to bring freedom to others.

Overcoming prejudice with unity. In DawnSinger, the clash is not over color of skin but between classes of being. Elderland was already inhabited by the Elder nation when the Kindren entered it from another world through a gate that closed behind them. The Elder accepted the Kindren's occupation of Elderland because they didn't want to live in the areas where they settled—areas within reach of garns (goblenesque creatures) and welkes (giant birds of prey). DawnSinger opens as an unknown enemy stirs strife between Kindren and Elder in an attempt to divide and conquer Elderland. As a result, the alliance of Faeraven, a group of Kindren kingdoms ruled by a widowed High Queen, begins to fall apart. This story arc, which spans three novels, is based in large part on Voigt’s father's experiences of prejudice as a half-breed Native American.

Serving rather than ruling. As the High Queen's health fails, Kai, the hero of DawnSinger, must choose whether to reign and rule in his homeland or to continue in service to the new High King at her death. Kai's decision inspires Shae to make her own.

Conquering fear by not letting it consume you. In Pilaer Hold, an ancient place of defeat for the Kindren, wraiths rush toward Kai and Shae's other protectors. They draw their swords, but the more wraiths they dispatch, the more arise. They learn that to defeat fear, something else is needed.

Visions warn her of danger, and a dark soul touches hers in the night. When she encounters an attractive but disturbing musician, her wayward heart awakens. But then there is Kai, a guardian of Faeraven and of Shae. Secrets bind him to her, and her safety lies at the center of every decision he makes. On a desperate journey fraught with peril and the unknown, they battle warlike garns, waevens, ferocious raptors, and the wraiths of their own regrets. Starlette Universe book: 1 'CAT'ASTROPHE by Kathy Johnson

The author uses word play and catchy rhymes to grab savvy chicky girls into her new series: Starlette Universe  good vs. evil in this first book:  'CAT' ASTROPHE by Kathy Johnson.  Johnson weave in good advice and character lessons in this very different form of book.  There is not a real religious element just elements from religion, fantasy and adventure.  This book introduces readers to gentle Jinnie, brainiac Bekka, fashiony Ashlee, rapper Sallee, foodie Lizzie, 'punny' Skylar and her blogging German schnauzer pet, Punkin. United by friendship, fashion, boys and a strong sense of right and wrong, these girls disdain cliques and anyone who doesn't treat them and others nicely. The Starlettes encounter their nemesis Eva the Evil, who uses an innocent kitten to create danger and horror for the girls.  Along with the fun and humor, girls can learn new vocabulary, the joy of wordplay, and serious messages for living. The narrative contains rhyme, verse, pun and prose that uses hyphens and mash-ups to add new meaning to words and phrases.

Children of Angels by Kathryn Dahlstrom

Jeremy Lapoint’s dad is in prison, and his mom struggles financially. When Jeremy discovers he can fly, pass through walls, and see spirits, his guardian angel, Asiel, explains that he is a Nephilim, a human-angel hybrid. Jeremy discovers other Nephilim young people. They’re enrolled in a school for teens with special powers and are told they’ve reached humanity’s next level. When Jeremy counters that they are half angel, he must battle human and superhuman forces who oppose the truth.

Chapter Three-The Nephilim
“The descendents of the Nephilim held the bodies in awe and terror. They built new tombs strongly hidden. They wrote of them in pictures, held as holy, for this was before written words.”

“Egyptians?” asked Jeremy.

“No. The Pharaohs’ bodies are hard leather and bones now. The Nephilim still look asleep.”

“Now? They’re still around?”

“Yes. And their legend lives on, though it’s known to a bare few. Some of those few would kill the legend at all costs, for they don’t want others to believe it, even as they seek the Nephilim for themselves.”

“What for? Have they found them?”

“I’ve told you all I know.”

“Yeah, but how did I get like this?”

“Too much knowledge now will be dangerous for you.”

“Dangerous?” echoed Jeremy

This is a wonderful read for middle schoolers.  If your child loves adventure then this would be a good book.  The author mingles fantasy and action in this wonderful chapter book about angels and demons.  The good vs. the bad. By the end of the book, you definitely want the next book to hurry and come out so you can continue in the adventure.  The book is full of suspense at every twist and turn of the page.  A book your child will probably have a hard to putting down.

When Kathryn Dahlstrom’s husband was transferred to Los Angeles, she traded Minnesota’s black-bear country for the inner-city and taught children at a Child Evangelism Fellowship Good News Club in Watts. She also began her writing career. In addition to writing six titles in the Good News Club children’s fiction series published by Child Evangelism Fellowship Press, the author is also a screenwriter and film producer.

Dahlstrom has a Bachelor of Science degree in Vocal Music Education, and a certificate in Elementary Education. She and her husband, Tim, live on wooded acreage north of Minneapolis/St. Paul where they care for her mother. They also have an adult daughter, Kristina.

Dahlstrom is a member of the Minnesota Christian Writers Guild, the Screenwriter’s Network Worldwide, the Screenwriting U Pro Series Alumni, and the American Screenwriters Association.

1.   Q.  In Children of Angels, 13-year-old Jeremy is a human/angel hybrid. What was your inspiration for that idea?
      A.  When I took producer Hal Croasmun’s intensive screenwriting course, the Pro Series, I was required to use his brainstorming methods to come up with a blockbuster movie idea. I prayed hard, pondered many fantasy premises, and then hit on the Nephilim mentioned in Genesis 6 and Numbers 13 in the Bible. Angels came to earth, took women as their wives, and their children grew up to be Nephilim—“Heroes of old, men of renown.” For me as a writer, that was a fantasy up for grabs! I wondered, what if the genes of the Nephilim resurfaced today in a kid? What if he could suddenly do everything an angel could do?
2.   Q.  What do you say to parents who might be concerned about fictionalizing the Nephilim?
A.    Today’s Christian parents know good make-believe when they see it. Nephilim means “fallen ones,” and it’s a very apt description of a human/angel hybrid. It’s pure fantasy to have their genetic material resurface today in a super-concentrated way, giving the new Nephilim angel powers. And that’s where the fun comes in! Yet I want parents to know that the fundamental truth in this story is that God is real. Heaven exists. Jesus Christ is Who He said He was: the Son of the Most High God.
3.   Q.  Does Children of Angels contain any references to magic?
A.  Not a bit. I know that glorifying the occult is a real danger with children’s fantasy. Children of Angels does the opposite. My main character, 13-year-old Jeremy, fights dark spiritual forces in all-out warfare using heaven-wrought weaponry. It’s medieval sword fighting—sometimes in mid-air, since these combatants have wings.
4.   Q.  Are you concerned that some young readers might be frightened when Jeremy fights demons face to face?
A.  Children of Angels is clearly labeled for 9-to-14-year-old readers because yes, this story is too intense for most younger kids. For tweens, I kept the demons stout, animal-like, and knobby rather than gruesome, dark, and oozing evil. They’re loud and obnoxious. I don’t show them possessing anyone. They’re nasty fighters, so they give the story all the action it needs. Remember Frank Peretti’s demons? I pulled mine back a notch or two. Evil, yes, but more in a mean way.
5.   Q.  Beside demons, who else opposes Jeremy?
A.  Jeremy has to contend with Louisa Prouse, director of the Higher Humanity Institute, a private school that she created for the handful of Nephilim teens in the world. She lectures that they’re the first to reach humanity’s next level. When Jeremy counters that they’re half-angels, she scorns him in class for believing in such things. And the conflict is launched!
6.   Q.  How does your story portray angels?
A.  I make them as close to scriptural angels as possible. Therefore, they don’t have angst or identity crises! Their one passion is to serve the Lord of Hosts. Primarily, they’re warriors. Jeremy’s own guardian angel, Asiel, cares as deeply for his young charge as a brother would. But he can’t understand human foibles and weaknesses and doesn’t let Jeremy dwell on them.
7.   Q.  Spiritual warfare is a heavy topic. How do you adapt it for kids?
A.  I put as much fun as possible in this story. Lots of humor, lots of exciting action. The first part deals with Jeremy’s shock when he learns he’s a Nephilim and then as he tries to get his head around what’s happened. Every fantasy needs to do that. It’s called giving the reader a feel for the new world or the fantastical things in the story. Then the problems start, leading to the showdown.
8.   Q.  What do you hope your readers will get from the story—in addition to a good read?
A.  I want them to realize that they can be warriors, too. Even kids! Jeremy learns to use heavenly weaponry. My readers, younger and older, can learn to use the weaponry we have as Christians: prayer!
9.   Q.  Many authors would love for their stories to go book-to-film. What have you done, if anything, to help the project go in that direction?
A.    I trained in screenwriting, a very specialized and difficult craft. By the push of God, I’m gaining a large, fast-growing Hollywood network, many of them Christian filmmakers. And to be a producer on a friend’s project, a family fantasy more in the “Lemony Snickett” style, is immensely exciting!
10. Q.  What other writing have you done for kids?
A.    I’m the author of the six-book Good News Club series, published by Child Evangelism Fellowship Press. They’re tween fiction set in inner-city Los Angeles, based on the real Good New Club I ran at Jordan Downs Housing Community.
