In her book Strength Renewed, Shirley Corder opens her heart to those that are traveling the road that breast cancer is taking them down. She a survivor, herself, she can say, "I've been there, done that." That is what make this book so real, from the voice of someone that has experienced what you are experiencing right now. These devotional meditations were written with you, the reader, in mind and will help you in your journey from diagnosis to treatment and beyond. She knows the physical, emotional and spiritual roller coaster that you are about to ride on. She remembers the day she heard those words from the doctor, "You have cancer." Corder will encourage you as you fight cancer and and come out on top.
Each chapter starts with a scripture passage to read, brief thought concerning the passage and your cancer journey that pertains to the scripture that was read, some thought provoking questions to answer either mentally or written in a journal and a prayer wrapped up with one single scripture passage that would be nice to memorize for the day's meditation. The book contains 90 short (two page spread) meditations just for your journey. I pray that you, like Corder will be able to say....
Shirley Corder is a registered nurse and a breast cancer survivor who has a passion for helping others as they go through treatment. She is a contributing author to several Guideposts anthologies and has published a number of devotionals in US and UK publications. She lives in South Africa.
We all have issues in life and Nicole has nailed it down to 5. She has found that most women have at least one of the five issues in her life. In her book She's Got Issues she discusses the 5 issues over 10 chapters taking two chapters per issue. The first chapter she helps the reader define the issue along with an assessment to take to see if you have a problem with the issue. and the second chapter she explores effective ways to deal with the issue. Each chapter has a prayer, journal exercise and group discussion there is also a web link you can connect to and Nicole gives a few minute encouraging talk on the issue. There are scriptures listed to help with the issue as well as questions for personal reflection. The DVD has a participates guide that can be downloaded for groups to use also each issue has a character interview to watch (5 min) a journal inventory entry time as well as a 20 min. session where Nicole will go over the issue with biblical principles added. There are also bonus discussion questions to use in the group setting. I haven't found anything not to like about this book and DVD curriculum. It would make an excellent fall ladies study.
The 5 Issues discussed are:
Control
Insecurity
Comparison
Fear
Anger/Unforgiveness
Some issues I could easily relate to where others I found were less of a problem for me in my life because they had already been dealt with.
In
book three of the “Freedom” series, the main character, Mara, finds
herself the object of her uncle's revenge. From a life sentence in
prison, Uncle Jefe, who held her as a sex slave in his San Diego
brothel, uses his underground connections to kidnap and drag Mara back
into the dark shadows of human trafficking.
Now in the struggle for her life and her ultimate freedom, Mara finds
herself kidnapped and experiencing something she never dreamed possible.
She finally finds herself yielding to the One who can truly set her
free—not only from her past life and all the fears and scars that go
with it, but from herself and her own sin. This time her choice delivers
her from the shadow of her name's meaning, "bitter" and into the light
of true joy.
At New Hope Digital (newhopedigital.com) you can find study questions
for each book in this series and an “ideas and resources” list to help
educate readers and enable them to apply what they've learned and become
actively involved in this massive and ongoing human tragedy—Trafficking
in Persons.
I have been a Kathi fan for many years now. I think she was one of my first authors I wrote blog review on. She's an awesome writer and The Deliverer is no exception. I hated to see this series come to an end, but I guess she has to move on to other things and if you read her interview below you'll get a glimpse of what she has in store for us in 2013. I can't wait! Though this book is in a series Kathi does a good job writing it that if you haven't read the first two books you won't be in the dark; however, I do recommend the first too books so you see how Maria (Mara)'s live progresses. If you are interested in human trafficking and all this is an excellent series to read giving you some insight. And if you aren't interested if you read this series you may get interested real quick like. Kathi has done a wonderful job at portraying the evil of human trafficking in this series. You just fall in love with all her characters and feel for them and the situation that they have had forced on them, many at a very young age. Human trafficking isn't always a pleasant topic but one that needs to be put in the forefront so people can become aware of the issue that is happening right here in the US. The stories just break your heart for those that are forced into this immoral act. WIN a COPY of Kathi's BOOK.....
I have a guest post by Kathi "Let My People Go" and book giveaway for this book featured here. Follow the link and enter in a chance to win Kathi's book The Deliverer.

of THE FREEDOM SERIES by Kathi Macias (all three books - Deliver Me From
Evil, Special Delivery, & The Deliverer) on September 24. you must post a comment on their blog to enter at http://christianspeakerservices1.wordpress.com/.
While this is the third and final book in the Freedom Series,
I’m sure there are people who are just learning about it. Would you
please share what prompted you to write these books on such topic as
relevant and difficult as human trafficking?
I
was finishing up my previous fiction series for New Hope Publishers
(the Extreme Devotion Series, dealing with the persecuted Church around
the world) when Andrea Mullins (the publisher at New Hope) asked me
what topic I wanted to tackle next. We discussed a few possibilities,
and then she suggested human trafficking. I was aware of it and thought
it was terrible but had no idea how widespread it was. I agreed to do
some preliminary research and get back to her. When I discovered there
are more than 27 million people held in various forms of human
trafficking (sexual slavery, forced labor or military conscription,
involuntary donation of body parts/organs) and that many of them are
children (including an estimated 100,000—300,000 MINORS held in sexual
slavery in the US today!), I was horrified. I was also convinced that I
had to do everything possible to help educate others about this
widespread horror and to call them to join the fight. Not only have I
now written/released the Freedom Series on human trafficking, but I’m
speaking on it everywhere/every chance I get.
What was your original objective in writing these books, Deliver Me From Evil, Special Delivery, and The Deliverer? And, what are you hearing back from people who have read the books? How are they taking action?
Originally
my plan was to see the books alert readers to this horrific crime and,
hopefully, challenge them to get involved in fighting it some way.
That seems to be happening, but on such a larger scope than I had
imagined. The response from readers is overwhelming! Pastors have
written to say they are challenging their entire church to get involved
on some level, and I’m being invited to speak all over the country on
this topic. I am thrilled to see the Light being shined in this
terrible darkness at last! As for specific actions, pastors and civic
leaders are inviting me (or others in this ministry) to come and speak
to their congregations/groups to help educate them on this massive
tragedy. Readers tell me they are posting about my books all over the
net to help snag people’s attention. I’m getting invitations to speak
on radio and TV as well. I’ve also been contacted by readers who are
getting involved in setting up safe houses for rescued victims, which
is a huge need. I was even contacted by the Department of Homeland
Security and invited to participate in group conference calls on the
topic. Overall, I’m thrilled at the way God is using these books to
help sound the alarm and to “rescue the perishing.”
It seems there is always someone in your books who is an intercessor. Why is that important for you to include?
This
is vital to me, and as you said, I almost always include an
intercessor in my novels. I know there were intercessors in my own life
who prayed me through some incredibly dangerous and difficult times,
and I appreciate those heroes of the faith more than I can express.
Highlighting their importance in my books accomplishes two things: it
enables me to honor those faithful intercessors who often get no
recognition in this world, and it also calls others to get involved in
intercession as well.
You
write books as you often call them, parables with a purpose, on topics
such as human trafficking, the persecuted church, illegal immigration,
and your Christmas 2012 book is about homelessness. Some might call
you an advocate. Why is it important for Christians, and the church as a
whole, to discuss these issues?
You’re right that I
call my novels “parables with purpose,” because I believe Jesus is our
example and that’s what He told to His followers—parables with purpose.
He didn’t just tell them “nice stories” to entertain them. He told
stories that would grab them right where they lived, and then challenge
them to change their hearts, their minds, and their lives. The Church
has always been at the forefront of serious social change, leading the
charge to abolish slavery for instance, and leading the charge on these
other issues is right where the Church needs to be now. The first step
is to discuss the issues, to make people aware of them, and then to
call them to action. I believe gripping fiction is one of the most
effective ways to do that.
Will
you give us a glimpse, a taste of things to come -- without getting
too far ahead -- of what’s in store for your next series and books on
the horizon?
In addition to the 2012 Christmas novel, Unexpected Christmas Hero,
dealing with homelessness in America, I will be releasing a new series
starting in January. The first of the three novels is called The Moses Quilt,
and it deals with a contemporary interracial romance, set against the
background of a quilt that tells the story of the courageous,
faith-filled woman known as Harriet Tubman. A contemporary novel dealing
with the issue of abortion will follow, with the first woman doctor in
America, Elizabeth Blackwell, as our backdrop heroine. The final book
will be built around the much beloved Fanny Crosby, as we deal with the
issue of people with disabilities. That series is from New Hope
Publishers, but I also have a book releasing in the Spring of 2013 from
B&H Publishers called Last Chance for Justice. It’s part of the multi-author Bloomfield Series, and I’m very excited about it.
You also write a devotional blog. Can you tell us what the focus is and where we can find it?
I
started writing a weekly devotional several years ago, in response to a
request from the then newly formed group CAN (Christian Authors
Network). I sent it out as a group email and had about 40 recipients
then. The devotional mailing quickly grew and expanded beyond the CAN
group, with countless readers signing up to receive it. I also started
posting it each week on my devotional blog (http://kathimacias.com/category/devotional-2/), which is part of my primary website (www.kathimacias.com),
where you will also find my “Easy Writer” blog, which is more
writing-related. (You can also sign up there to receive the weekly
devotional in your inbox.) Over the years the devotional has been picked
up by Crosswalk, Black Christian News, Latino Christian News (I offer
it in Spanish as well as English), Believe.com, Christians in Recovery,
etc., so the readership has mushroomed beyond anything I ever
imagined. God is amazing, isn’t He?
Finally,
we know you as an award-winning author, but you also enjoy speaking
for women’s events, and other groups, as well. On what areas or topics
do you focus your speaking presentations? How can a church or group
find out more about having you speak for their event?
I
speak on various topics, including the issues I address in my books,
but on other topics too. One of my most requested topics is “When
Passion and Purpose Collide.” That, along with several other popular
topics, can be found in the speaking section of my website (http://kathimacias.com/speaking/). To see my current speaking schedule and/or to explore the possibility of having me come and speak, just go to http://kathimacias.com/speaking/speaking-schedule/ and click on the Christian Speakers Services button to make contact. “Your dress has
really bold colors.” Does that sound like an insult in any way? How
about this one: “That was a really bold choice.” Would you consider this
criticism?
I hope not! I’d
never wear something that would melt into the background of a beige
room. I’d hate it if someone said, “You made a very safe, easy choice.”
Being bold means taking risks, not fearing failure or rejection and requires intentional thinking. When we live boldly for God we have empowerment and passion to make our boldness meaningful.
Settling for
mediocrity in marriage, as parents, in careers, friendship, faith or
ministry is not bold. God wants us to pursue everything we do with
intensity and decisiveness. This means we are frequently checking the
pulse of our pursuits and rapidly responding when we get a distress
signal.
Is your marriage
(especially in bed) ho-hum? Find some bold ways to rev it back up. Are
your kids struggling? Don’t just shrug and follow the “traditional
wisdom,” think creatively about taking brave actions no one else would.
Do your prayers
feel more like talking to the ceiling fan than conversations with a
wise, cherished friend? Do something wild and new to transform.
Don’t confuse
boldness with arrogance or recklessness. When your bold actions are
paired with love, respect and clarity the results will translate as
conviction with complete humility.
Jesus has a bold message and He is asking you to not only share it, but live it! Bold is truly better.
Now for giveaway part two...Remember this is a bonus so you must complete the mandatory part by visiting the original tour post and commenting here first. If you have done the mandatory then comment here for a second chance...Tell me in our comment if you like to be BOLD...in your dress bold colors, in your room decor, etc... Would you consider yourself Bold if so how??? if now why?
No mother
ever expects to grieve the death of her child before or immediately
after the child is born. But the National Institute of Environmental
Health Sciences reports that as many as 31 percent of all pregnancies
end in miscarriage, stillbirth, or infant loss. When the unthinkable
happens, where do women turn for help?
Written from the perspective of one grieving mommy to another, Hope for Today, Promises for Tomorrow is
a ten-week study that will encourage and challenge women to delve into a
deeper understanding of God's Word. As women engage in biblical
teaching, they will learn to embrace God's promises of love, goodness,
purpose, comfort, peace, refinement, restoration, hope, and eternity.
"Hope
for Today" verses peppered throughout each chapter, journaling cues,
prayers, and the stories of other women who have experienced loss will
help readers move from grieving in silent solitude to living life in the
richness of God's love.
While other books suggest a
one-size-fits-all method for grief management or focus on understanding
specific causes of child loss, Hope for Today, Promises for Tomorrow
offers comfort for the reader, whatever her situation, by helping her
focus on the light of the ultimate Promise, the hope of a Savior, Jesus
Christ.
I experienced a miscarriage 19 years ago. Where was this book when I needed it? The valley was dark and the road to recovery took some time for me. The
pain of losing a child is the same, no matter what the circumstances
are, through miscarriage, infant loss, etc. This book is other women's experiences on how they dealt with the loss. It will help those going through the loss to realize they are not alone. The verses in the book are wonderful, as well as the
journaling exercises. A very lovely tool for those in need of hope and promises for the journey they are on.
Meet Teske:
Teske
Drake (PhD, Iowa State University), is mommy to three babies in heaven,
mom to two on earth, and wife to her one and only. She is cofounder of
Mommies with Hope, a biblically based support group for women who
have experienced infant loss.
In
coordination with the launch of their fall releases, Kregel will be
hosting a live webcast event on September 20 at 8 PM EDT featuring
authors Kim Ketola (Cradle My Heart), Teske Drake (Hope for Today, Promises for Tomorrow), and Dawn Scott Jones (When a Woman You Love Was Abused).
The webcast will allow women to come together to share their struggles
and fears in order to move toward healing and hope. Women will able to
support one another and discuss shared experiences in a non-threatening,
open and loving environment.
Cat Hoort of Kregel says, ""We are
seeking to provide safe means for Christian women to be vulnerable with
each other, to seek help and guidance from authors and counselors, and
to find encouragement from those who have shared similar experiences.
Our hope is that the Women Redeemed webcast will become a forum for

other women to move toward healing and hope."
Abortion
continues to be a hot topic in politics, women’s rights, and medical
practice. But for the eight to ten million American Christian women who
have had one, abortion is a spiritual issue as well, raising questions
of life and death, heaven and hell, grief and loss.
Writing from
her own experience, Kim Ketola sheds light on one of the darkest and
most neglected personal issues of our time: the widespread need for
healing and spiritual recovery after abortion. “After abortion brought
the worst trouble into my life I had ever known,” writes Ketola, “I just
couldn’t see my way free to believe in God’s love.”
With a
compassionate heart, Ketola offers ten true stories of healing promise
from the Bible to help women answer the most common spiritual torments
they face: Is abortion a sin? Does God hate me? Where can I turn in my
shame and distress? How could I ever tell anyone the truth? And more.
Inspired
by Romans 6:4--“just as Christ was raised from the dead through the
glory of the Father, we too may live a new life"--this is a definitive
resource to help women see themselves and God anew and--finally--to find
spiritual healing.
Abortion is a hot topic. Many women that have had an abortion don't talk about it. They try to tuck it way back in the depths of their mind, but it always has a way of raising it's ugly head in their memory. In her book, Cradle my Heart, Kim Ketola opens up her life and lets you into the inner most secret a women can hold on to. Ketola is transparent in her book as she tries to help women overcome the darkness of the after abortion effects that so many women live with by themselves. This book is a good resource for those that have had to make the decision to end their child's life because others wanted it to be ended. It will help them learn to accept God's forgiveness for this wrong that they have done. This is a great tool for anyone that has had an abortion or lost a child, through miscarriage or early child death. I had a miscarriage myself and struggled for a long time with the after effects. I can't imagine what a women that chooses to have an abortion might be going through, much worse I'm sure. In the book you'll find healing promises from the Bible and answers to some questions such as - Is abortion a sin? Does God hate me? Where
can I turn in my shame and distress? How could I ever tell anyone the
truth? And more. Each chapter has timeless truths in them as well as a Reflection (Scriptures to meditate on) , Request (Prayer) and a Response (next step to be taken toward forgiveness)

Ketola is a sought-after writer and motivational speaker with the Ruth
Graham and Friends conference. After thirty years in the broadcasting
industry, she founded a nonprofit organization through which she
presents professionally accredited conferences to equip counselors and
help individuals recover from the emotional and spiritual wounds of
abortion. Kim lives in Atlanta, Georgia.

Are you ready for some Christian bubbles/myths to be busted? Author Amy Spiegel does just that in her book, Letting Go of Perfect. These myths are man made and tend to rob women of joy and cause them to go absolutely crazy in the process. You'll learn the truth about how God's Word can bring nie meaning to our every day life. Spiegel takes a look into our closet of Vanity Fair, our inner life that is evident in our outward choices. You'll find that you, yourself, is your own worst enemy. In order to be perfectly in line with God there are things that we need to let go of in life; we must let go of the idea of being perfect. What is right for one person may not be what God wants for you. We must be real, transparent. Spiegel shares 6 things we must let go of and 1 item we must grasp dearly.
How about you are you striving for perfect and just seem to be spinning your wheels? Well then maybe you could use a copy of Amy's book. I have one for giveaway. Is there something you feel you must let go of ....share in a comment or maybe you want to take a stab at one of the six things that Amy says must be let go of in the book. Women
today are busy, stressed, and guilt-ridden, yet they long to develop
their spiritual sides. Turning Guilt Trips into Joy Rides offers
inspirational thoughts based on scripture--brief enough to be read
during a television commercial, yet insightful enough to open your eyes
to the grace of God on days you change diapers and/or lead corporate
meetings. Each reading suggests a "Guilt Trip to Avoid" and ends with a
way to "Take the Joy Ride." The book includes six months of daily
readings so that you may establish a habit of connecting with God.
Readings are listed under the letters G-R-A-C-E, representing God,
Relationships, Acceptance, Challenges and Emotions.
The
coauthors hope these meaningful readings will help you deal with
guilt--both real and imagined. By applying the insights shared in
Turning Guilt Trips into Joy Rides, you may develop a calmer, less
guilt-ridden life-style and become better equipped to function as wives,
mothers and friends. Younger women often develop patterns of thinking
and experience feelings of guilt that carry over into their mature
years, so women of all ages will find this book helpful.
I loved how the authors used the acronym GRACE and divided the readings into each theme from the acronym. They made everyday happenings come to life and how to deal with them. They give you a guilt trip, a scripture that pertains and their life story. Each author shares on a different day and there are 183 days of GRACE and inspirations to turn your guilt trip rides into joy rides.
Kim
Messinger, Janine Boyer and Shirley Brosius had a common bond of
Christian service when Christ drew them together for their first small
group meeting in January, 1998.
Since
then they have drawn closer through life’s joys and struggles and found
God to be sufficient for their every need. They call themselves
“Friends of the Heart” because their passion is to help women open their
hearts and find joy in Christ.
Kim and Janine supported Shirley in writing Sisterhood of Faith: 365 Life-Changing Stories About Women Who Made a Difference,
which was released by Howard Publishing, a division of Simon &
Schuster, in 2006. More recently the three women worked together to
write another devotional book, Turning Guilt Trips into Joy Rides. They have spoken at women’s retreats and events in five states. All three women live in Millersburg, Pennsylvania. Visit their website for more info.
Guilt! She
pokes you as you write about your quaint, eccentric aunt. She grabs you
as you wander from e-mail to Facebook to laundry instead of focusing on
your work. She kicks you as you complain about your husband to a
friend.
Have you noticed? Women
seem riddled with guilt. And it’s hard to know if guilt is legitimate
or simply a product of our imaginations. After all, should we really
feel guilty about things over which we have no control?
We are not perfect. We have no control over some things, so it's no use feeling guilty. We can't do it all.
To celebrate the release of Turning Guilt Trips into Joy Rides,
Shirley, Janine and Kim are giving away some great prizes during the
blog tour. Share your own "guilt trip" or "joy tip" and be entered to

you are seeking a bit of calm (Eden) from the crazy life
The this book is for you..... The author shares many reasons why we as women should blame Eve for eating the forbidden fruit that day way back at the beginning of creation in the beautiful perfect Garden of Eden. Aughtmon twists in a bit-o-humor as she tries to get across to her readers that the battle begins in our mind. When we start doubting God is the beginning of our downfall. Satan likes to twist the truth just enough to bring about temptation and mislead us. Sin starts when the thought is planted you don't even have to take action. When we desire to take matters in our own hands that's when things begin to go in the wrong direction.
Thought out the book you will find the author leads the reader to find freedom from:
the cage of perfectionism
the hold of control issues
Satan's lies
feeling hopelessness when your world is spinning out of control
feeling anger when plans go awry
When I first started reading the introduction I was a tiny bit concerned because the author leads the reader in the introduction to believe that man/woman was created first before all things. That caused some concern as in the Bible "Creation" account man/woman was God's final and crowning creation on Day 6. This concerned me somewhat, but the issue was never mentioned through out the book so I don't know why the author leads you at the beginning to believe this thought. After that I totally enjoyed the book and its contents.

You don’t have to do more, be more, have more.
I’m sure there are security alarms going off somewhere. You should probably hide this book when your in-laws come over. And this could be the makings of a Sunday morning scandal. But it’s true.
It’s the kind of true that will change your life, set you free, and make you wake up smiling for the first time in a long time. I know because that’s what it did for me (and believe me, for this non–morning girl that’s nothing short of miraculous). I’ve seen it happen to a lot of other women too. I’ve read it in their words through thousands of comments on my blog. I’ve seen it in their faces on the couch in my counseling office. I’ve heard it in a new kind of laughter over coffee with friends.
So watch out, sister. If you keep reading, you just might be next.
Even if we’ve never met, I know this about you: you’re a daughter of God, a holy princess, a woman created with strengths you’ve yet to fully grasp and a story that’s still being written by the divine Author himself. And if you really take hold of who you are and what you’re called to do, there will be no stopping you. That’s because there’s no stopping him in you—and he’s got bigger plans for your life than you’ve even imagined.
Okay, you’ve been warned.
If you’re feeling brave, I dare you to turn the page . . .

"Literature adds to reality, it does not simply describe it. It enriches the necessary competencies that daily life requires and provides; and in this respect, it irrigates the deserts that our lives have already become." -C.S. Lewis
