We Believe in.....Picture Books

Candlewick’s very first review was for Can’t You Sleep, Little Bear? by Martin Waddell, illustrated by Barbara Firth. Publishers Weekly said, “Move over, Goodnight Moon. . . . Waddell’s tranquil tale is perfectly attuned to a child’s need for security and bedtime ritual; combined with Firth’s serene watercolors, it’s a triumph of genuine affection.” This was a fitting beginning to Candlewick’s launch and demonstrated the affection with which readers greeted our books.

We continue to believe in the importance of picture books and to publish them with great success, and so on August 31, 2012, Candlewick will launch a yearlong video celebration of picture books at

Candlewick will share 365 videos about picture books – a new one each day – from our authors, illustrators, staff, family, and friends. The videos will be short, engaging, informal, and personal as each contributor shares what picture books mean to them, recommends favorite stories, and more. We invite you to visit for more information, and to celebrate picture books with Candlewick every day of the year!

Here is a sneak preview of the We Believe in Picture Books videos:
