This book has been a nice pick up and read here and there book. Good, interesting, inspiring words. Love the lay out with a Amish-style picture on almost every double page spread. The book is divided into themes or chapters. You'll find words of wisdom about Time, Money, Faith, Children & Family, Words & Deeds, Work, Adversity, Education, Community, Character and Just some Fun Wisdom. Each chapter starts with a short little inspirational story about the theme and then you have about a 5 - 2 page spread with a picture on one page and three or four nuggets of wisdom on the other.

Here's a few sample pages of the book:

This is a very lovely book. Nice size about the size of a CD case. An inch or so in depth. It is a nice little gift book for those that you wouldn't know what to get them or those that have everything. Put is in a gift basket with some other goodies, the receiver will love it. Find out how you can win a copy below.

Through firsthand research and personal relationships, Suzanne Woods Fisher has collected more than 200 proverbs that uncover the rich heritage, folklore, faith, values, history, and essence of the Plain People. These proverbs serve as teaching tools and maxims for practical living--but they're not just for the Amish. They're for anyone who seeks God's wisdom and truth for everyday circumstances.
Ranging from the simple to the profound, from the serious to the humorous, these sayings will stick with you through life's joys and sorrows. With beautiful full-color photos throughout, Amish Proverbs is the perfect gift for any occasion.

Suzanne Woods Fisher is the CBA bestselling author of The Choice, The Waiting, Amish Peace, and Amish Proverbs. Her interest in the Anabaptist cultures can be directly traced to her grandfather, W. D. Benedict, who was raised in the Old Order German Baptist Brethren Church in Franklin County, Pennsylvania. Benedict eventually became publisher of Christianity Today magazine. Suzanne is the host of a radio show called Amish Wisdom and her work has appeared in many magazines. She lives in California. Find out more about Suzanne at www.suzannewoodsfisher.com

We have a very smart thinker in our home. We teach the boys to "Do unto others as you'd have them do unto you" as I am sure most parents do. Today, however, the youngest one used that in a negative way. He wanted to play with something his brother had, so he hit him (because he wanted to be hit) so that his brother would get into trouble, and he could have the item. So, we found ourselves explaining it a bit more thoroghly, as in it means "Do unto others what you're true intentions are" not an immediate reaction. Hopefully it is sinking in as he spends some time in his "thinking chair" LOL:)

One of my favorite sayings is "this too shall pass". No matter what negative thing/event is going on in your life, eventually it will pass-we just need to have patience. Patience truly is a virtue.

The Golden Rule was always quoted in our house; Pretty is as Pretty does; Don't cut off your nose to spite your face and many others. Please add my name to the giveaway. To win this wonderful family book would be winning a treasure chest of wisdom. A perfectly treasured heirloom to pass down. Thank you Suzanne for offering this book for giveaway.

I'm sorry to say my family was not a great source of proverbs or wisdom. LOL. I really can't remember them saying much in that area. Maybe don't make waves. Maybe that's why I'm starved for some from this book!
